"Artificial intelligence carries risks – there is no question about that. However, when developed and applied correctly, it also offers enormous potential, especially for greater equality of opportunity and diversity. The KITE project, with its AI-supported game application for female founders, impressively demonstrates the power of interdisciplinary perspectives in development," says Lisa Hanstein.

About the project

Unconscious biases and experiences of discrimination prevent many women from pursuing self-employment or make the daily professional lives of female founders more difficult. The KITE project – Thinktank for Female Entrepreneurship, part of the "AI for the Common Good" funding line of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, aims to change this. Its goal is to use artificial intelligence to implement a gamified application that makes the experiences of female founders visible, thereby supporting them in their entrepreneurial ventures.

The pilot application KITE I was designed during the first project phase from 2020 to 2021. During the development process, EAF Berlin contributed its expertise on the innovation potential of AI in the areas of equality of opportunity and diversity.

In the current follow-up project, KITE II, scientists and practitioners led by Prof. Dr. Nicola Marsden, a socio-informatician at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, are implementing an AI-based mobile game based on the pilot application.

Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences on the project: “The project is developing an AI-supported application that helps female founders build resilience when dealing with discriminatory experiences. In a visual novel—a story in which users participate themselves—difficult conversational situations encountered during the startup phase are generated, allowing users to interactively steer them toward greater fairness. This creates virtual role-playing scenarios where users can pursue different strategies and test new behaviors. As a result, the game becomes a tool for overcoming real-world challenges..”

The advisory board, of which Lisa Hanstein is a member, supports the project with perspectives from the fields of female entrepreneurship support, gender equality, and communication.
