Combating sexism is a responsibility for all sectors of society

On October 26, Christine Lambrecht, Federal Minister for Women and Justice; Burkhard Jung, President of the Association of German Cities; Christina Ramb, Executive Board Member of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA); Claudia Hartwich, Senior Director of Human Resources and member of the executive board at Microsoft Germany; Carola Unser, Artistic Director of the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg; and actress and entrepreneur Ursula Karven signed the Joint Declaration against Sexism and Sexual Harassment.

It is the result of the project "Dialogue Forums against Sexism", a collaboration between the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), the initiative "Stronger than Violence" and EAF Berlin.

Since 2020, associations, companies, civil society organizations, and municipal representatives have been exchanging ideas in dialogue forums focused on sexism in the workplace, in culture and media, and in public spaces, compiling effective measures to combat sexism in all areas. The guide "Together against Sexism" was published as part of this initiative.

With the Joint Declaration representatives of high-ranking institutions are now committing to recognizing the fight against sexism as a task for all forces in society and to preventing and ending sexism and sexualized violence in all its forms. It represents the next step toward a strong political, social, and economic alliance against sexism and sexual harassment.
