Federal Cabinet members support the fight against sexism

In the coalition agreement, the coalition partners had previously agreed on a joint commitment to a "strong alliance against sexism." In the press release from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs (BMFSFJ), it states:

Federal Minister for Women Paus founded the "Together Against Sexism" alliance in February 2023. It already includes over 480 members and is a joint project of the BMFSFJ and EAF Berlin.

Federal Minister Lisa Paus, patron of the alliance:

"I am very pleased that all cabinet members have accepted my invitation today and joined the 'Together Against Sexism' alliance. Together, we are taking a firm stand within our ministries and departments. Sexual harassment has no place in our open, diverse society—and today, all federal cabinet departments are sending a strong signal to that effect! I call on companies, associations, and government agencies to follow our lead, join the alliance, and take decisive action against sexism together. Together, we stand up for an equal society!"

The "Together Against Sexism" alliance aims to identify sexism and sexual harassment and end them through effective measures. Sexism manifests itself, for example, in the form of belittlement or abuse of power based on gender. As a mass phenomenon, sexism can occur in the workplace, in public spaces, and in culture and the media. Its many forms, ranging from seemingly harmless comments to violent boundary violations, have been impressively brought to light by the international #metoo movement.

Sexism harms those affected, as well as companies, organizations, and society as a whole. The more than 480 members include the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA), the Association of German Cities, the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses, and the German Caritas Association. Alliance partners also include companies such as Volkswagen, the BMW Group, Charité, ZDF, and Deutsche Bahn AG, as well as cities like Hamburg, Bremen, Bochum, Dortmund, and Erlangen.

The alliance pursues an intersectional approach: it involves diverse groups that are multiply affected by discrimination, for example, due to ethnic origin, disability, or antisemitism. A wide range of measures has already been developed among alliance members, including public events, action days, exhibitions, and guidance materials.
