What would our democracy be without people who get involved? Around 15 million citizens in Germany volunteer their time. Whether in politics, social work, at university, or in the workplace: volunteering and civic engagement are vital to our society.
Perhaps you sometimes wonder if and how you can get involved. Or maybe you are already active but aren't sure what you can achieve with your commitment. In either case, this brochure can help you get an overview.
16 tips will help you decide where, how, and to what extent you would like to get involved—in foundations, associations, political parties, at university, or in the workplace—and will inspire you to do more.
This brochure was created as part of the Open Doors – Open Minds program. Open Doors – Open Minds was conducted in 2017/18 and again in 2018/19 by EAF Berlin in cooperation with elbarlament. It is a program for career orientation and civic education for young refugee women between the ages of 18 and 27. It is funded by the federal program "Demokratie leben!" (Live Democracy!) of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and by the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
