We Belong Night: Empowerment strategies against online hate

Women with a migration history, BIPoC, or similar backgrounds are more frequently targeted by digital violence, as they are often affected by both sexism and racism. The "We Belong — Network for Women with a Migration Background in Politics" at the Helene Weber-Kolleg invites you to the digital We Belong Night on March 13, 2024, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, to discuss how to deal with digital violence.

In the first part of the event, lawyer and HateAid CEO Josephine Ballon will provide an introduction. The focus will be on practical options for action and the legal framework. What are the strategies for dealing with digital violence?

Following the presentation, the network—meaning members of the target group—will share experiences and empowerment strategies within a safer space. Even if you have not been personally affected, you are warmly invited to join: solidarity and support within the community are just as important in the digital space.

This event is aimed at politically active women with a migration background or similar backgrounds (BIPoC, migration history, etc.). We want to provide a safer space for women who experience racism. We are aware that the backgrounds of our target group are diverse and we want to open this space to various forms of self-identification.

More about the We Belong network

The fact is: women with a migration background are underrepresented at all levels of politics. As a result, the perspectives, lived realities, and needs of this group are missing from political discourse. We want to change that and have created the "We Belong" network to provide a space for this. Our mission:

• A nationwide, non-partisan network that provides a safer space for women with a migration background, BIPoC, or similar backgrounds for empowerment and the exchange of experience and knowledge in their political work.
• Another goal is to benefit from the experiences of other politically active women and to exchange ideas and best practices on how more women with a migration background can be represented at the local level and in parliaments.
• Interactive formats provide space for exchange and networking.

Our offerings are aimed at women with a migration background or similar backgrounds (BIPoC, migration history, etc.) who are involved in politics. By "women," we mean all individuals who identify as women. We are open to everyone who identifies as part of this target group, shares our understanding, and is interested in getting to know the network.

The network is being implemented as part of the EAF project "Helene Weber College". The Helene Weber College is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs.
