With Children in Politics

Women are significantly less likely to hold a local political mandate than their male colleagues. Elected officials in the so-called "rush hour of life" are particularly underrepresented in local councils. This suggests that more needs to be done to address the needs of people with caregiving responsibilities when it comes to balancing politics, family, and career. What contribution can local parties and municipalities make, and what further measures are needed to ensure that local politics is structured in a way that allows everyone who wants to participate to do so?
Cécile Weidhofer, Director at EAF Berlin, author of the study "With Children in Politics - Best Practices for Balancing Family, Career, and Local Political Office" and head of the Helene Weber College (HWK), the nationwide non-partisan platform for women in local politics, will present key findings, recommendations for action, and best practices for family-friendly local politics in her presentation, followed by a discussion.
