Shape. Lead. Act. MAYOR!

The German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB), together with EAF Berlin and other partners, invites you to the 3rd Municipal Women's Congress in Saxony-Anhalt. This full-day event at Magdeburg City Hall on November 7, 2024, is primarily aimed at female mayors, deputy mayors, and local politicians.

Local politics is the foundation of democracy. For resilient political structures at all federal levels, it is essential that society is represented in all its diversity. Yet, far too few women from diverse backgrounds choose to take on responsible roles in shaping the future of their municipalities, cities, or districts.

Titled "Shape. Lead. Act. MAYOR!", the DStGB's 3rd Municipal Women's Congress aims to highlight and connect women already active in local politics—especially mayors—and to collectively define measures and goals to increase the proportion of women in local government.

The event is organized by the German Association of Towns and Municipalities in cooperation with the Saxony-Anhalt Association of Towns and Municipalities, EAF Berlin, and the German Rural Women's Association, with support from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

The congress will examine the framework conditions for political offices—both honorary and full-time—present current studies by EAF Berlin and recommendations for action, and focus on the culture of political communication:

How are local female politicians and their views on political processes reported in the local press and on social media channels?
How can an appreciative and objective political discourse become a reality?
Which communication spaces can be better utilized to interest women in political office?

Speakers from federal, state, and local politics will share their experiences and perspectives on women in local government. Building sustainable network structures, highlighting role models and trailblazers, and anchoring mentoring programs and the promotion of young female talent as a guiding principle for local politics—these and many other topics will be the focus in Magdeburg on November 7, 2024.
