Expert Forum on Local Politics: Hate, Incitement, Antifeminism - How do I protect myself as a female politician?
Anti-feminist intimidation tactics are increasingly discouraging women from appearing in public as politicians and from making social or political decisions. In everyday political life, whether in council meetings or local discussions, this manifests as sexist comments, insults, threats, and other forms of hate speech. Anti-feminist attacks are also on the rise in the digital space, where the threshold for insults and threats is often lower and the legal framework is frequently less understood.
In this online event, Basma Bahgat and Anna Wegschneider from HateAid will discuss forms of digital anti-feminist violence. The session focuses on sharing knowledge and practical strategies for protecting against and responding to attacks:
- How do I identify abusive communication and behavior online?
- What legal options are available, and what evidence is required?
- Who can I turn to in an emergency?

The Action Program Municipality – Women into Politics!
The action program aims to sustainably increase the proportion of women in local government (city and municipal councils as well as district councils) and the number of female mayors and district administrators, both full-time and honorary. Therefore, it focuses not only on women, but also aims to initiate structural changes that can have a positive impact on women's participation and the overall acceptance and attractiveness of local politics. A key focus is on rural regions. Over a project period of 1.5 years, two groups of 10 selected regions each will benefit from numerous offerings and a one-time grant of €5,000 for regional activities.
The program is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and implemented by EAF Berlin in cooperation with the German Rural Women's Association (dlv). The three leading municipal associations – the German County Association, the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, and the Association of German Cities – as well as the Federal Association of Municipal Women's and Equal Opportunities Offices support the initiative.
