City Hall – a male domain?

At the DAI Heidelberg event on February 4, 2025, Helene Weber Prize winners Gabriele Off-Nesselhauf, Hibba-Tun-Noor Kauser, and Marilena Geugjes will join EAF Director Cécile Weidhofer for a discussion.

In Germany, politics is still primarily a man's world. Why is it so difficult for women, especially in local government, to take on responsibility and help shape life in their communities? Is there a lack of motivation to run for office, or what are the underlying reasons? How can political networks be leveraged? How can family life and holding office be reconciled? How can politics be made more inclusive? Cécile Weidhofer discusses these questions with Helene Weber Prize winners Marilena Geugjes, Hibba Kauser, and Gabriele Off-Nesselhauf.

Cécile Weidhofer is a Director at EAF Berlin, where she leads projects focused on implementing gender equality in politics and public administration. Her work centers on cross-party collaboration with current and future full-time and volunteer local politicians, as well as with municipalities and political parties.

Dr. Marilena Geugjes (Green Party) has represented the Heidelberg district in the Stuttgart State Parliament since June 2024 and has served as a city councilor in Heidelberg since 2019.

Hibba-Tun-Noor Kauser (SPD) has been a city councilor in Offenbach since 2021 and is a member of the Juso federal executive board.

Gabriele Off-Nesselhauf (CSU) has been a district councilor for Upper Bavaria since 2013 and a county councilor for Fürstenfeldbruck since 2014.
