HWK invites you...
As part of the EAF project Helene Weber-Kolleg the online event "HWK invites you..." examines manners and the culture of debate in local political committees. These are too often characterized by disrespect and everyday sexism, as shown by recent studies from EAF Berlin and the Körber Foundation. At the event, local politicians will discuss what can be done about this. One effective tool, for example, is a joint agreement on communication and behavior in meetings, a so-called "Code of Conduct."
Following an expert presentation by the Körber Foundation, practical examples will be presented. In 2020, the city of Potsdam became the first city ever to adopt such a code; the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde followed suit just recently in September 2023. Local politicians from Potsdam and Rendsburg-Eckernförde will report on their experiences with the development and implementation of their agreements.

Women in all their diversity are underrepresented in politics, especially in parliaments and local councils. At the federal, state, and local levels, the proportion of female mandate holders is rising at a snail's pace or even falling. Not even one in ten town halls is led by a woman. The goal of the Helene Weber-Kolleg (HWK) is to change this: as the first nationwide, cross-party platform for female local politicians, it offers various exchange and networking formats as well as information to support women in entering and advancing in politics. A focus is placed on an intersectional perspective. With the Helene Weber Prize, the HWK honors outstanding local politicians and makes them and their work visible. The Helene Weber Network strengthens and connects the award winners. The HWK is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and implemented by EAF Berlin.
