Women in politics should be the rule, not the exception. Yet, even after more than 100 years of women's suffrage, only one-third of the members of the German Bundestag are women. This is where major political decisions are made that shape our society and influence our future—decisions made by a male majority. The event at the Federal Foundation for Gender Equality will focus on new ideas, well-founded facts, and concrete demands for fair political representation of women in German parliaments.

Program

The program includes a welcome address by Elke Büdenbender, a video message from the Federal Minister for Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Karin Prien, a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger, and a panel discussion with members of the Bundestag. In addition, Dr. Elke Wiechmann (FernUniversität in Hagen) will present the report "Election Campaigns and Campaign Financing for Direct Candidates," which she co-authored with Prof. Dr. Lars Holtkamp (FernUniversität in Hagen) on behalf of the association Parité in den Parlamenten e.V.

Also in attendance: Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth, EAF Berlin, and numerous committed supporters from politics, academia, and civil society who are working together to advocate for genuine political equality.

Kick-off event starting at 11:00 AM on the lawn in front of the Reichstag building
