100 Years of Women's Suffrage

EAF Berlin supported the anniversary with a campaign. The goal was to put the discussion on gender equality on the public agenda.

For 100 years, women have had the right to vote and to be elected – a milestone in the history of German democracy. The right to vote is the foundation for equal rights and political participation for both women and men. Nevertheless, women have not been equally represented in any German parliament since 1919.

The anniversary campaign "100 Years of Women's Suffrage – What Are You Fighting For?" aimed to provide information about developments since 1918, successes, and unmet goals with a forward-looking focus, to advocate for more women in politics, to mobilize multipliers, and thereby stimulate the discussion on gender equality.

To this end, 100 well-known figures were asked the question: "What are you fighting for?". An online action map made events across Germany related to the anniversary and adjacent topics visible.

The campaign was accompanied by extensive, engaging public relations work. For instance, an anniversary reception took place in November 2018, followed by a future congress in May 2019.
