Entering (local) politics with children?
Are you interested in what is happening in your local community? Do you have ideas on how to improve things? Would you like to get involved but are unsure of what to expect? Are you asking yourself: Should I do this, is it worth it? The goal of the "How to make politics" event series is to provide you with answers, motivate you to get involved, and show you how exciting (local) politics can be when viewed without prejudice.

Nowhere else can you get involved in shaping your personal living environment as directly as in local politics. Here, you can join the discussion, participate in decision-making, and give weight to your arguments. And nowhere else can you observe and evaluate the results of decisions so immediately. This is—not exclusively, but essentially—democracy in action. Women take on local political mandates significantly less often than their male colleagues. When they do decide to run for office in a local representative body, they have often already moved past their primary family-raising years. This suggests that more needs to be done to address the needs of people with caregiving responsibilities regarding the compatibility of politics, family, and career. Mandate holders—both women and men—in the so-called "rush hour of life" are underrepresented in local politics.
What contribution can local parties and municipalities make, and what further measures are needed so that
local politics can be structured in a way that allows everyone who wants to participate to do so?
