How do local politicians fund their election campaigns? And how can they raise donations and reach out to supporters? The EAF Berlin expert forum, part of the Frauen.Vielfalt.Politik. project, provides practical insights into campaign financing.

Running for office means running a campaign—and depending on the position, that can be very expensive. For many women in politics, financing is the biggest hurdle. It is often particularly difficult for first-time candidates. If the party provides little funding, there are no existing contacts to donors, and personal savings are lacking, starting a political career can quickly become a financial burden. This effectively excludes many women—especially those who do not have personal wealth.
