8th German Engagement Day

The 8th German Engagement Day will take place in Berlin and online on December 5th and 6th, 2023, under the theme "Strengthened for the Future! Engagement Strategy as an Opportunity to Bolster Civil Society and Democracy." EAF Director Cécile Weidhofer will be hosting a workshop titled "Local Politics – Who Cares?"

This year, the Federal Government is working intensively and in partnership with civil society, policymakers, and the federal states to set the course for a forward-looking engagement policy. As part of a major participatory process, numerous people across Germany have exchanged ideas this year regarding the current development of civic engagement.

The 8th Engagement Day marks the conclusion of this process. It is being organized jointly by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the Federal Network for Civic Engagement. The conference will take place at the Humboldt Carré in Berlin-Mitte on December 5th from 10:00 a.m. to approx. 4:00 p.m. and on December 6th from 9:00 a.m. to approx. 3:00 p.m. In addition to presentations and panel discussions, there will be various workshops. Together with Christine Jung (SPD) and Sophia Kraft (Alliance 90/The Greens), EAF Director Cécile Weidhofer will host a digital workshop on December 6th on the topic of "Local Politics – Who Cares? How Balancing Family, Career, and Political Engagement Can Strengthen Democracy" .

On the evening of December 5th, the German Engagement Prize will be awarded at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

These questions are being explored by stakeholders from business, politics, and industry as part of the Berlin business network "Gleichstellung gewinnt" (Equality Wins) – a joint initiative of the Senate Department for Labour, Social Services, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination, the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Berlin Chamber of Crafts.
