Recruiting and supporting women in parties – and beyond?

Women remain significantly underrepresented in parliamentary mandates and even more so in political offices at all levels of government. This political underrepresentation begins at the party membership level: significantly more men than women are members of a political party.
What structural and cultural changes are needed within political parties to attract more women and gain them as members? Where are the concrete starting points for parties to improve the internal promotion of women? And what is the state of women's opportunities for political participation where traditional party structures are losing their appeal and independent voter associations or non-partisan candidates are increasingly shaping the landscape for offices and mandates?
Following an introductory presentation by Prof. Dr. Corinna Kröber on approaches to recruiting and supporting women in parties, Dr. Benjamin Höhne will examine what the growing trend toward voter associations and non-partisan politics—particularly in East Germany—means for women's opportunities for political participation.
