EAF Berlin has been involved since 2012 in Tunisia with the project “Democracy Needs Women!” and thereby works in close cooperation with various women’s and human rights organisations.
The project supports the political participation of women in Tunisia, above all at the local level, via networking, exchange of views and promoting dialogue.
The goals of the project are:
- Empowerment: supporting and qualifying potential female candidates for the upcoming national, regional and local elections.
- Exchange: Promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge of politically involved women in the context of the mentoring concept.
- Networking: Dissemination of best practices for promoting the political participation of women, in particular at the local level.
From 2015 until 2016, “Democracy Needs Women!” was already in the third round. It was supported by the program of “Coopération Municipale – Gouvernance locale et participative au Maghreb (CoMun)” of the GIZ - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.
