Berlin Declaration 2017 Joint demands of 17 women's associations to the parties for the parliamentary elections in 2017
With a catalog of demands, more than 12.5 million women from 17 women's associations turn to the parties to the Bundestag elections on 24 September. The EAF Berlin is part of the alliance.
The signatories demand that politics, the economy and society take further steps towards equality in the coming legislature. It is important to quickly define and achieve new milestones with clear targets, according to the associations. After 100 years of women's suffrage, 70 years Basic Law and 25 years of active equality order women in Germany have been waiting long enough and made compromises.
In particular, the associations - including the EAF Berlin - call for parity not only in the supervisory boards and in the management levels of the private sector, but also in politics as well as in supervisory, advisory and awarding bodies in the media, culture, medicine and science. In order to achieve equal pay in the job, the new Law on Pay Transparency is a first step to stop gender-specific differences in income. Further legal regulations and effective measures such as transparent, comprehensive test methods for gender-differentiated pay analysis in all companies with a work council obligation and the abolition of the spouse splitting in its present form are necessary. Moreover, equality policy requires commitment, transparency and control of achievements. Only then can it be successful as a "guiding principle" in accordance with §2 of the Joint Rules of the Federal Ministries of Germany.
The demands were handed over by the leading representatives of the Alliance on 31 May and 1 June 2017 to the representatives of the democratic parties which take part in the parliamentary elections. Overall, very satisfied with the results of their political discussions with top candidates for the parliamentary elections, the Alliance is now focusing on concrete implementation in the electoral programs.
